Meet the Industry Awards finalists

HITO, Kitomba, and NZARH are thrilled to announce the 2017 Industry Awards finalists.

The Industry Awards is an annual celebration of the Kitomba NZARH Business Awards and the HITO Next Generation Talent Awards. These awards celebrate excellence in business and training in the hair, barbering and beauty industries and are a highlight of the industry calendar. 2017 marks the eighth year of the Industry Awards, with over a thousand hair and beauty professionals, trainers, and businesses vying for top honours in business and training throughout the years.

Al Quinn, CEO of Kitomba said “the Kitomba NZARH Business Awards were created to build a culture of recognising and celebrating business excellence in the hair industry. And that’s what we’ve done, changed the focus from just being technically and creatively excellent to celebrating those in our industry who are incredible business owners.”

Maureen Bowring, NZARH Chairperson went on to say “I believe it is important to celebrate success in the industry and being involved with such an anticipated industry event is truly humbling. The standard of entries submitted this year was astounding and it is exciting to see the commitment and passion for the industry around the country.”

HITO is thrilled to celebrate the businesses, apprentices, and trainers helping New Zealand’s hair, barbering, and beauty industries perform to the highest standard. A highlight for this year’s awards was the announcement of HITO’s first beauty therapy apprentice of the year finalist: Machaela Robbins from Pamper Me in Thames.

HITO CEO Kay Nelson said:

“The HITO Next Generation Talent Awards celebrate the future of these industries. Our top trainers and training workplaces help nurture our future leaders, putting New Zealand’s hair and beauty industries on an international level. Our top apprentices bring new ideas and innovation to our industries, constantly helping them grow and change with the times. Our Next Generation Talent Awards acknowledge these leaders and help the barbering, beauty, and hair industries move into the future”.

The winners will be announced at the Industry Awards event on Sunday, November 19 in Auckland. Tickets are available from iTicket.

Thank you to the 2017 Business Awards sponsors: L’Oreal, Wella, Salon Business Coach and Comfortel.

HITO Awards Finalists 2015

After a tough day of judging, the HITO judges selected the finalists

Last week, the HITO Awards judges met to pick our finalists – and it was a real challenge.

Lyndsay Loveridge, Greg Durkin, and HITO CEO Erica Cumming were the awards judges. Erica represented HITO, helping out judges select the finalists who showed a strong commitment to HITO. Lyndsay is a former salon owner and hairdressing industry expert. She provided a valuable industry perspective for judging. Greg Durkin is the Group Manager – Stakeholder Engagement at BCITO. He provided an outside perspective on the applications.

After nearly eight hours, our judges selected the finalists for each award.

Congratulations to our finalists. Regional winners for the Apprentice of the Year will be announced on Friday 25 September at 3pm on Facebook and this website.

All finalists should be incredibly proud of your achievement. We look forward to celebrating with you at the Industry Awards in November.

Also a huge and warm thank you to everyone who took the time and effort to put together applications. The applications we received this year were well thought out, creative, and inspiring. We’re so proud to have all of you involved with HITO.
